RETAIL ASSOCIATES - several positions available, flexible schedule up to 34 hours per week. May - Oct; schedule varies Nov - Dec The Retail Associate is responsible for engaging visitors and selling locally made products at the Shop Small Chicago kiosk on the Chicago Riverwalk through the 2019 season. This role offers Retail Associates total immersion in small business operations. Shop Small Chicago produces locally made apparel and accessories and is a retail operation that sells our products and other Chicago brands. This role is instrumental in increasing the visibility of Chicago brands and creating a welcoming environment to visitors to the Chicago Riverwalk.
Key Duties - Sell apparel, accessories, jewelry, and beauty products made by Chicago artists and designers - Provide customer service in a fun and professional manner - Cultivate the culture of supporting Chicago brands, neighborhoods, and creative communities - Create positive and memorable experiences for visitors to the kiosk and the Chicago Riverwalk - Maintain visual displays, store presentation, and inventory - Uphold company policies and procedures and the Chicago Riverwalk Guidelines

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT - 1 position, begins end of May We are hiring a part-time (20- 30 hours per week) Product Development Apprentice to help us develop and produce commercially viable products of our own brand of consumer goods to be merchandised in a seasonal retail operation. The Apprentice will work with the Creative Director under the guidance of a Design Mentor to develop a small collection of apparel and accessories in a production studio environment.
Key Duties The Apprentice is responsible for coordinating and assisting in the development and manufacturing of accessories and apparel branded as Shop Small Chicago. This role offers the Apprentice total immersion into an apparel and accessories design and manufacturing business. The successful candidate will work closely with our team and local community of designers and makers who are small business owners too. DIGITAL MARKETING - 1 position begins end of May Digital Marketing Apprentice (up to 2o hours per week) is responsible for helping to coordinate and execute the Shop Small Chicago social media strategy, working across our website and key social media channels including Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. This role offers the Apprentice total immersion into Shop Small Chicago, a business that produces apparel and accessories and a retail operation that spotlights our products and other Chicago brands. The successful candidate will work closely with key members of staff, external social media consultants, and other creative brands, to learn about social media, digital communications and marketing in a business to business and business-to-consumer environment. This role will be instrumental in increasing our social media presence and gaining visibility for our related brands. Apprentice reports to the Creative Director and will have a Mentor from the Public Relations & Marketing industry.
Key Duties Integrated Digital Media Coordination - Schedule daily posts using tools like HootSuite to plan forward-looking posts including weekends and holidays (under supervision from Director) - Assist with streamlining company social media accounts (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter YouTube, Flicker, and other social media platforms), ensuring uniform content and tone of voice for landing pages, graphics, and other elements - Engage and repost content from current vendors on all social media accounts (initially under supervision from Director) - Use social media polls and surveys to build our social media footprint and reputation - Liaise with vendors to ensure that their company profiles are accurate and up-to date - Work with directors to implement other channel-specific campaigns (e.g. uploading photos to Flickr, videos to YouTube, etc)
Coordinate and Distribute Content - Coordinate the marketing plan for social media, editorial, marketing and blogging calendars - Facilitate vendor surveys, interviews and profiles, post to our website and create social media posts - Maintain vendor management database (images, surveys, contact info, etc) - Amplify content through other social media channels - Research, identify and monitor key industry bloggers, trade journalists and influencers - Help develop video content for each market and post on social media - Repurpose content from other sources for our own social media channels (and understand how to change the tone of the content for each channel)
Monitor and Report Social Media Analytics - Track key social media analytics and web performance - Assist to build monthly reporting tools on social media analytics and performance against baseline targets
Email Marketing and SEO - Assist to create and send vendor management emails and newsletters - Research free online directories to generate inbound links for SEO - Research industry and comps and maintain related databases
